PROVO, Utah — The BYU men's cross country team concluded an undefeated 2024 season with an NCAA national championship, Mountain Region championship, Big 12 championship and four All-America honors. 

The Cougars won the national meet with 124 points, finishing 13 points above Iowa State. The men maintained the overall spot throughout the race with 85 points at the 1000-meter marker, 86 at 5000m, 94 at 8000m and held on to secure five runners in the top-50 for the national title. 

Senior captain Casey Clinger earned a career-best finish at the national meet as he finished in sixth place and garnered All-America honors. Creed Thompson, Joey Nokes and Lucas Bons also collected All-America status, finishing in 12th, 31th and 39th, respectively. Davin Thompson rounded out BYU's scoring five, finishing in 50th place.

The Cougars earned an automatic qualifying spot to the national championships at the NCAA Mountain Regional Nov. 15 in Reno, Nev. The team won the race with 52 points and all five scorers earned All-Mountain Region honors.

Clinger crossed the finish first for the Cougars and fourth overall with a 29:24.9 finishing time. Creed Thompson came in next for the team in sixth while his brother Davin crossed in eighth. Nokes finished in ninth place and Luke Grundvig finished out the scoring pack in 25th. 

The men's team claimed its first Big 12 title at the conference championship on Nov. 1. The team scored 41 points to beat Oklahoma State, the 2023 NCAA championship winners who maintained the No. 1 spot in the rankings up to that point in the season.

Clinger finished third overall and first for the Cougars over the 8k course in 22:09.14. Corrigan and Nokes finished together in stride, taking seventh and eighth place, respectively. Creed Thompson and Bons finished the scoring pack for the team in 11th and 12th positions. Davin Thompson was BYU's sixth man who crossed in 15th place with a 22:51.50 finishing time. All six men were named to the All-Big 12 Team. 

At the conclusion of the season, Eyestone was named the NCAA Men's National Coach of the Year for the second time (2019, 2024), NCAA Mountain Region Coach of the Year for the second time (2009, 2024) and Big 12 Coach of the Year for the first time.
