IRVING, Texas — Delaney Gibb picked up her second-straight Big 12 Freshman of the Week honor after a 23-point outing against Arizona in BYU’s first conference game, the conference announced Monday.

This is Gibb’s third weekly recognition of the season, making her the first freshman to win the award three times in the season’s first two months since Kansas State’s Ayoka Lee in 2020.

In a game where points were hard to come by, Gibb’s scoring kept the Cougars in it and gave them a chance down the stretch to knock off Arizona in their Big 12 opener.

The Raymond, Alberta native personally outscored the Wildcats 13-7 in the second quarter going 5-for-6 from the field and a perfect 3 of 3 from downtown. The freshman also grabbed two rebounds and recorded an assist and a steal in the period.

In the third, Gibb scored eight of BYU's 12 points on 3-of-4 shooting with two more triples to match her career-high of five threes in a game. Gibb recorded game-highs with 23 points, eight rebounds and three steals to lead all players. The Canadian phenom was 9-of-15 from the floor and 5-of-7 from behind the arc in BYU's only game this week.

Just 12 games into her freshman campaign, Gibb has already cracked the top 10 in numerous categories in the freshman record book. Her 17.33 points per game ranks first in BYU freshman history, ahead of Shaylee Gonzales (16.97) who was the last BYU freshman to earn conference Freshman of the Year honors in 2019.

Gibb also ranks second in 3-point field goals per game (2.75), fourth in minutes per game (33:06), fifth in 3-point percentage (41.3 percent), seventh in 3-point field goals made (33) and steals per game (1.58), and 10th in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.02:1).

After the Christmas break, BYU will travel to take on the Cincinnati Bearcats at 2 p.m. MT on New Year's Day. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ from Fifth Third Arena in Cincinnati and broadcast live on BYU Radio, byuradio.org and the BYU Radio App.
