BYU's Mortensen named the UATA College Athletic Trainer of the Year

PROVO, Utah — BYU director of football athletic training Brett Mortensen was named the College Athletic Trainer of the Year on Saturday by the Utah Athletic Trainers' Association.

Mortensen has worked with the BYU football program in the Sports Medicine department of BYU Athletics since 2013. A BYU graduate, Mortensen earned his bachelor's degree in excercise science/athletic training from BYU in 1994 before obtaining an MS degree in physical thereapy at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1997. Since returning to BYU to work with the football program, Mortensen completed a PhD in physical medicine and rehabiliation from the university in 2018.

Prior to become the director of football athletic training at BYU, Mortensen worked as a physical therapist and athletic trainer at the Central Utah Clinic and was the owner of Peak Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine.

From Highland, Utah, Mortensen is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and the American Physical Therapy Association. He also currenlty serves as the Chair of the Athletic Training Licensing Board for the State of Utah.
