PROVO, Utah — The BYU women's tennis team defeated Weber State Saturday for its fifth win of the season.
The Cougars (5-1, 0-0 Big 12) have started 5-1 for the first time since 2021, and nationally ranked No. 100 Bobo Huang improved to 4-0 in singles this season. With the win over the Wildcats, BYU concluded its three-game stretch against in-state opponents, going 2-1 with wins over Utah State and Weber State and a loss to Utah.
Doubles
- Astle/Kovick (BYU) def. Morett/Davies (WSU), 6-4.
- Lolofie/Ferreira (WSU) def. Huang/Sawhney (BYU), 6-2.
- Dunyon/Wheatley (BYU) def. Hill/Semenik (WSU), 6-0.
Order of finish: 3, 2, 1.
Dunyon and Wheatley jumped ahead 3-0 and never looked back, winning 6-0 and securing the first doubles victory of the afternoon for the Cougars.
Huang and Sawhney trailed 2-1 and later fell behind 5-1 before the duo rallied to make it 5-2. Despite the rally from Huang and Sawhney, Lolofie and Ferreira went on to win 6-2, marking the first doubles victory for Weber State.
After each team split the first two matches, the doubles point came down to Astle and Kovick's match on court No. 1.
Astle and Kovick were tied with Morett and Davies 1-1 but later took a 3-1 lead. After extending to a 5-3 lead, Astle and Kovick clinched the doubles point for BYU with a 6-4 win.
The Cougars have secured the doubles point in every match this season.

Order of finish: 1, 4, 3, 2, 6, 5.
Huang quickly jumped ahead 3-0 and cruised to a 6-0 first-set victory. Leading 3-0 again in the second set, she went on to defeat Morett in straight sets, securing her fourth singles win of the season and improving to 4-0 in 2024.
Dunyon and Semenik were tied 1-1 before Dunyon took a 4-1 lead and won the first set 6-2. Falling behind 2-1 in the second set, Dunyon took a 3-2 lead and secured a 6-3 win, marking her first singles victory of the season and giving BYU a 3-0 lead overall.
Wheatley was down 2-0 to Lolofie but evened the score at 3-3. Tied again at 6-6, Wheatley won the tiebreak 7-4. In the second set, she led 4-1 before winning 6-2, clinching the match for BYU.
Sawhney took an early 2-1 lead in the first set and extended her lead to 4-2 before winning the set 6-3. Trailing 2-1 in the second set, she took a 5-4 lead. Davies evened the score at 5-5 and went on to win 7-5, forcing a third set where she ultimately prevailed.
Astle led 2-1 and then 4-3 before winning the first set 6-2. She took an early 3-0 lead in the second set and secured a 6-2 win.
Kovick was down 3-0 in the first set but fought back to tie it 4-4. Tied at 6-6, Ferreira won the tiebreak 7-5. In the second set, tied again at 4-4, Ferreira took a 5-4 lead and won 6-4, securing the match.
The Cougars will face Colorado State next Saturday at home, with the match starting at 9 a.m.
