"The DMR is all about being in the right place at the right time," said BYU director of track and field Ed Eyestone. "This Boston meet looks like it will have some of the best teams in the country. We certainly have the personnel in place in each leg to get it done, so I'm just hoping that we can get that stick around the track as fast as we can. If we do that, I feel confident that we can qualify for the NCAA National Championships."

The Cougars will have both men's and women's teams compete in the Distance Medley Relay (DMR). Per the NCCA, "The distance medley relay is the only NCAA championship relay event where every leg is a different distance. The versatility of the legs gives mid-distance and distance runners a chance to run relays, an opportunity not afforded in the 4x100 meter and 4x400 meter relays." The breakdown of legs includes in order: 1200-meters, 400m, 800m and 1600m.

The men's crew will have the aid of two sub-four-minute milers in Aidan Troutner and Lucas Bons. Troutner broke the historic barrier at the Cougar Invitational Jan. 14, where he ran 3:59.2 at elevation in the Smith Fieldhouse. Bons recorded a personal best in the mile, running 3:54.82 at the John Thomas Terrier Classic at Boston on Jan. 26.

The women's crew will feature Meghan Hunter and Riley Chamberlain, both coming off of program top-10 times in the 800m at the Husky Classic last week. Hunter clocked 2:02.17, taking first in the field and cementing herself at No. 2 in program history. Chamberlain ran 2:03.94 to land at No. 8 all-time.

The distance groups will rejoin the the rest of the program for the school's inaugural Big 12 Conference Championships Friday-Saturday, February 23-24 in Lubbock, Texas.
