PROVO, Utah — BYU men’s tennis looks to improve to 3-0 at home this season as it hosts Nevada on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. MST.
BYU (5-3) currently rides a four-match winning streak, with victories over Omaha, Montana State, and UC Riverside (twice) all ending in sweeps.

Where Things Stand
The Cougars will be well-rested as the battle with Nevada will take place one week after defeating UC Riverside 4-0 in both doubleheader rounds. At No. 2 and No. 4 singles, Wally Thayne and Redd Owen each improved to 6-1 on the year. Thayne and doubles teammate Zach Fuchs also won both of last Friday’s doubles matches for their fifth straight win and a 5-1 record together this season.
Owen and Jack Barnett also won 6-3 at No. 2 doubles to earn a 5-2 mark as teammates on the year.
TJ Wells returned to the singles lineup last Friday at the No. 6 slot, winning both singles matches in straight sets. He and teammate Tygen Goldammer registered wins in both doubles matches to up their record to 3-3.
Nevada Notes
- 2023-24 record: 1-3
- The Wolf Pack’s lone victory this season came in their opener, a 4-3 win at UC San Diego. BYU also won at UC San Diego this year in what was a 5-2 triumph on Jan. 13.
- Nevada went 11-8 last season, with a 1-6 mark on the road and second place finish in the Mountain West standings (4-2).
- The Wolf Pack are led by Sylvain Malroux, who is in his ninth season as head coach with an 83-87 record. Malroux most recently led Nevada to a 2022 NCAA Tournament appearance after finishing 19-8 and claiming a Mountain West title.
- Four of six roster members return from last year, including 2023 All-Mountain West Singles honoree and senior Matheo Coupu.
- Friday’s match marks Nevada’s fourth road match in its fifth contest this season.
