No. 45 BYU Clinches First Big 12 Victory, Defeats No. 59 UCF 5-2

No. 45 BYU women's tennis defeated No. 59 UCF 5-2 for its fifth consecutive victory and first Big 12 conference win as a member. The Cougars improved to 9-1 on the season and 1-0 in conference play.

ORLANDO, Fla. — No. 45 BYU women's tennis defeated No. 59 UCF 5-2 for its fifth consecutive victory and first Big 12 conference win as a member. The Cougars improved to 9-1 on the season and 1-0 in conference play.

No. 71 nationally ranked Bobo Huang led the way Thursday, improving to 8-0 in singles this season.

Junior Kendall Kovick won her fifth singles match of the year and improved to 5-4 on the season. Fellow junior Maddy Smith improved to 3-1 on the season with her singles victory over Mihaela Tsoneva.

Senior Emilee Astle improved to 4-1 in singles and clinched the overall match victory for the Cougars with her win over Anique Kattenberg.

- Huang/Sawhney (BYU) def. Biolay/Tilbuerger (UCF), 6-2
- Li/Wheatley (BYU) def. Lincer/Webb (UCF), 7-6 (7-5)

After the first two matches were completed, Li and Wheatley took Lincer and Webb to a tiebreak to secure the doubles point for BYU. The Cougars have earned the doubles point in every match this season.
