PROVO, Utah – The 2025 men’s tennis season kicks off on Jan. 17 at home against Weber State.
Friday’s match will be played on BYU’s indoor courts at 5:00 p.m. MST and live-streamed on byucougars.com on all four courts.
BYU Notes
- Coach Zack Warren begins his second year as the BYU head coach. In his first season, Warren led the Cougars to an 11-11 record, including a 10-match win streak.
- The Cougars have faced Weber State 72 times and have a commanding 67-5 series lead.
- BYU has two top-150 doubles teams. Wally Thayne and Zach Fuchs are ranked No. 32 and TJ Wells and Otto Schreiner are ranked No. 113.
- The Cougars will welcome two new players as their official season begins. The lone freshman on the team this season, Hardy Owen will compete in his first dual match Friday. Owen was a 5-star recruit out of high school in 2022 but has not competed yet as he returned from his two-year church mission this summer. The team also received a transfer from Sacramento State, Adam Chodur, a junior who played two years at Sacramento State and was named second-team All-Big Sky in his Sophomore season.
- BYU will receive Otto Schreiner back for his Sophomore season after his two-year church service.
Weber State Notes
- This will be the beginning of the Wildcats season as well.
- Weber State went 10-13 in their 2024 dual-match season. They were just 1-9 on the road.
- The Wildcats were ranked third in the Big Sky preseason poll released earlier this week.
- Weber State has a top 150 doubles team. Connor Kruger and Minh Tuah Dinh Viet are No. 117 in the latest rankings.
- Brad Ferreira is the Director of Tennis and is entering his 13th season as the team’s head coach.
