WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – BYU gymnastics scored a season-high 195.750 in the sixth annual Les Olson IT Best of Utah meet Monday night at the Maverik Center.
Utah took home first place with a 197.950, followed by Southern Utah’s 196.175, Utah State’s 196.000 and BYU’s 195.750.
BYU’s freshman Addi Glazier hit her bars routine and scored a 9.825 to earn the team MVP award of the competition.
The Cougars opened their night with a solid beam rotation. Beam queen Brynlee Andersen scored a team-high 9.925 on the apparatus. Freshman Alilah Alvarado scored a 9.750 in her beam debut. With a pair of 9.8’s from Eliza Millar-Crossman and Mina Margraf-Benson, the Cougars scored a season-high 49.025 beam score.
Heading into rotation two, the Utes were in the lead with a 49.525, followed by SUU (49.100), BYU (49.024) and Utah State (49.000).
BYU brought the energy with their floor routines in the second rotation. Millar-Crossman opened the rotation with a season-high 9.825. Olivia Matern followed with a season high of her own as she scored 9.800. The Cougars finished with a final floor score of 48.675.
At the end of the second rotation, Utah held its lead with a 99.050, followed by SUU (98.150), Utah State (98.000) and BYU (97.700).
Kylie Eaquinto led the vault rotation with a 9.825. With three 9.750’s from Sophie Dudley, Deb Silva and Mya Kirkham, the Cougars earned a new season-high vault score of 48.800.
Heading into the final rotation of the night, the Cougars had a team score of 146.500 for fourth place, coming in behind Utah (148.575), Utah State (146.950) and Southern Utah (146.800).
BYU finished the night on the uneven bars, earning a new season-high score of 49.250 after earning five scores above a 9.800. Ava Jorgensen started the rotation off with a 9.850, tying her career high on the apparatus. Alvarado and Kirkham followed with matching scores of 9.850, new season highs for the pair. Eaquinto notched a team-high 9.875 and freshman Addi Glazier closed out the meet with a career high 9.825.
Utah held its six-year winning streak and earned a final score of 197.950.
The Cougars return to the Marriott Center on Friday evening to take on in-state rival Utah at 7 p.m. MT. The competition will be streamed on ESPN+.
