PROVO, Utah – BYU won its first Big 12 conference meet of the season with its 195.675 to beat West Virginia’s 195.000 on Friday night at the Marriott Center.
The highest scores of the evening came from sophomore Brynlee Andersen, who marked a 9.900 on both the balance beam and the floor exercise, and Anna Bramblett-Wilde who put up a 9.900 on the uneven bars.
BYU shined on the floor exercise, notching the highest event score (49.325) all season, with every Cougar receiving over a 9.800 on the exercise.
BYU started its night on the vault, where they recorded the second-highest team score of the season with a 49.000. Kylie Eaquinto tallied her season high, a 9.850, for the second meet in a row to lead BYU on vault. The Cougars led after the first event.
The Mountaineers recorded a 48.475 after their first rotation on the uneven bars.
After two falls on the bars for BYU, Bramblett-Wilde was able to boost the team score back to a 97.425 after she notched a 9.900.
West Virginia took a 48.475 on the vault to add to their team score of 97.350, just 0.250 behind the Cougars.
For the fifth time this season, sophomore Andersen scored in the 9.900 threshold to lead BYU on the balance beam. Overall, the Cougars scored a 48.925 to give them a total of 146.350.
Scoring a 49.100 on the floor, West Virginia was able to take the lead at 146.450 after the third rotation.
On the final rotation for BYU, two season highs came from Sophie Dudley (9.875) and Heidi Schooley-Meyers (9.850). Andersen marked another 9.900 to help put the team floor score at 49.325.
West Virginia took a 48.550 on the balance beam. BYU claimed their first Big 12 conference win of the season, 195.675 to the Mountaineers’ 195.000.
The Cougars will travel to Ames, Iowa to take on the Iowa State Cyclones at the Hilton Coliseum on Friday, Feb. 21 at 6:30 p.m. MST.
