LIHUE, Hawaii – BYU men’s golf (281-279-280–840) finished in eighth place at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate at the Ocean Course at Hokuala on Saturday.

The Cougars were led by sophomore Peter Kim, who was able to take a top 20 finish in the event. Kim recorded rounds of 69-68-71–208.

No. 16 Utah and UNLV co-led the competition, each finishing 22-under. Santa Clara finished 10-under to take third place and No. 20 San Diego State, No. 10 Illinois and Texas A&M each tied for fifth at 3-under.

Senior Cole Ponich finished in a tie for 30th with rounds of 72-70-70–212. Ponich made four birdies in round three to help him move up the ranks. Kevin Wu tied with Ponich, marking rounds of 73-70-69–212. Wu made two birdies in a row on holes 15 and 16.

Zac Jones finished tied for 45th and Simon Kwon finished tied for 51st. Tyson Shelley, who competed as an individual, finished tied for 66th.

The Cougars will return to play in the Lamkin Invitational at San Diego Country Club from Mar. 10-11.
