Gibb earns eighth Big 12 Freshman of the Week recognition

IRVING, Texas — Delaney Gibb was named the Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Week for the eighth time this season on Monday after she lifted BYU to an upset win over No. 20 Oklahoma State. 

With her eighth recognition this season, Gibb becomes the third player in Big 12 history to earn at least eight weekly freshman honors, tying Darianna Littlepage-Buggs of Baylor with eight and Ayoka Lee of Kansas State who holds the all-time record with 12. 

BYU athletes have now accounted for eight of the last nine Big 12 Freshman of the Week awards with Gibb receiving seven and Kambree Barber getting the nod on Feb. 3 after her first career double-double against ASU.  

Gibb was a catalyst for the Cougars as they knocked off the No. 20 Oklahoma State on Saturday, 68-64. The Raymond, Alberta native contributed 14 points on 3-of-8 shooting, connecting on her only offering from downtown and 7-of-9 from the charity stripe.

The freshman also recorded game-highs in rebounds and assists with seven and six, respectively. Gibb also carded three steals in the upset win over the Cowgirls.

Earlier in the week, Gibb added 14 points with three steals, three rebounds and two assists against No. 11 TCU. The freshman averaged 14 points on 38.1 percent shooting on the week, going 50 percent from downtown. while averaging 5.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and three steals on the week. 

Gibb continues to lead all conference freshmen in scoring (16.88), field goal percentage (.456), assists (3.92), free throw percentage (.782), 3-point field goals (62), 3-pointers per game (2.48) and minutes played (33.28).

Gibb and the Cougars next travel to Tucson to take on the Arizona Wildcats on Wednesday, Feb. 19. Tip is scheduled for 6 p.m. MT with the game streamed on ESPN+ and broadcast on BYU Radio with Jason Shepherd on the call.
