IRVING, Texas — BYU women's track and field runner Riley Chamberlain was named the Big 12 Women's Track & Field Athlete of the Week, the league announced Wednesday afternoon.
Chamberlain anchored BYU's distance medley relay to an NCAA record on Feb. 14 at the Husky Classic. The junior from Loomis, California split 4:24 for her 1600m leg to pull away from the rest of the field and record her second school record this indoor season (Mile, Jan. 31).
On day two of the Husky Classic, Chamberlain returned to set BYU's No. 2 all-time mark in the 3000m, running 8:40.89 for No. 2 in the NCAA this season.
Nine days ahead of the Big 12 indoor championships, Chamberlain ranks No. 1 in the mile and No. 2 in the 3000m in the conference. In the NCAA, she ranks No. 7 in the mile and No. 2 in the 3000m. Her DMR squad remains No. 1 in the conference, No. 1 in the NCAA this season and No. 1 in NCAA history.
Chamberlain's honor is BYU Track and Field's third Big 12 Athlete of the Week award this season (Maren Garnett Jan. 15, Riley Chamberlain & Meghan Hunter Feb. 5) and third since joining the conference in 2023.
