AMES, Iowa – The BYU gymnastics team notched a new season-high score of 195.900 on Friday night, besting Iowa State’s 194.175 at the Hilton Coliseum.
With tonight's win over the Cyclones, the Cougars move to 4-10 overall, with a Big 12 record of 2-3.
In tonight’s Big 12 showdown, several Cougars took the top spots on the podium for each event, including Kylie Eaquinto’s first-place finish on vault with a 9.850. Freshman Addilyn Glazier’s career-high 9.875 tied the top spot on podium with Iowa State’s Frederique Sgarbossa, while Eliza Millar-Crossman’s 9.825 on beam shared the top spot with ISU’s Josie Bergstrom-Te Slaa for the apparatus.
The Cougars opened their night in Ames on the uneven bars, earning their best team score since the BYU tri meet on Friday, Jan. 31 of 49.000. Glazier earned a new career-high score of 9.875 on the apparatus, while Eaquinto earned a 9.800 and Anna Bramblett-Wilde notched a 9.825.
BYU led after the first rotation by just 0.25, with Iowa State scoring a 48.750 on vault.
The Cougars scored a pair of 9.775’s from Sophie Dudley and Ava Jorgensen on vault in the second rotation. For the third meet in a row, Eaquinto scored a season- and team-high 9.850. Freshman Deb Silva anchored the vault lineup with a 9.800, bringing BYU's team score to a 48.925. BYU held its lead following rotation two 97.925-97.625.
Millar-Crossman opened BYU’s floor rotation tying her season high with a 9.825. The next four routines by Dudley, Heidi Schooley-Meyers, Eaquinto and Brynlee Andersen all notched 9.850’s before Silva closed out with a new career-high score of 9.800. With all six scores above 9.8, the Cougars scored a 49.225 team score on floor, extending their lead heading into the final rotation, 147.150-145.225.
Millar-Crossman matched her season-high beam score with her second 9.825 of the night. Freshman Chloee Hoke scored a 9.800 and the Cougars scored a team beam score of 48.750 to close out the competition.
The Cougars head back to Provo for their final home meet of the season on Friday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. in the Marriott Center. The meet will be streamed on ESPN+. Nine seniors will be recognized following the competition.
