Vest named Big 12 Co-Player of the Week

BYU first baseman Cooper Vest was today named the Big 12 Co-Player of the Week for his performance during the second week of the 2025 baseball season against UCLA and CSUN.

IRVING, Texas — BYU first baseman Cooper Vest was today named the Big 12 Co-Player of the Week for his performance during the second week of the 2025 baseball season against UCLA and CSUN.

Vest, who has started 97 straight games for the Cougars over the past three seasons, shared the weekly award with Nu’u Contrades of Arizona State.

Over four games last week, Vest hit .438 with a slugging percentage of 1.188. The senior from St. George, Utah, hit three home runs, had three doubles, drove in five runs and scored seven times in 16 at bats. Vest had a home run in each game of the three-game series at CSUN in Northridge, California, leading BYU to its first series win of the 2025 season.

Through the first eight games of 2025, Vest is hitting .303 and leads BYU in home runs (4), doubles (3), runs (9), total bases (25) and slugging percentage (.758). He also has a 1.000 perfect fielding percentage with 55 putouts and six assists in 61 chances.

Vest currently leads the Big 12 in home runs (4) and total bases (25) as well as fielding percentage (1.000) and double plays (7). He was named All-West Coast Conference Second Team in 2023.

BYU hits the road again this weekend for a three-game series with former conference foe Gonzaga, Feb. 27-March 1, in Spokane, Washington.

Game one of the series is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 27 at Coach Steve Hurtz Field with first pitch set for 3 p.m. PT. All three games of the series will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and will also be available on the BYU Radio app all three days.
