TUCSON, Ariz. – BYU men’s golf (270-238–508) sits in first place after Monday’s opening rounds of the Arizona N.I.T. at Omni Tucson National Resort.
Sophomore Peter Kim (66-60–126) shot an 11-under 126 to take hold of the spot in the individual competition. The Salt Lake native made 11 birdies through round one and round two’s 16 holes to help boost him up the leaderboard. Kim also made the most eagles out of the 76-player field with two.
Freshman Kevin Wu (66-58–124) is two strokes behind Kim in second place. Wu’s 13-made birdies gave him the most out of any players from today.
Simon Kwon (68-60–28) is tied for third. The junior’s play was highlighted by an eagle and 11 birdies.
Cole Ponich shot 7-under to stand in a tie for 5th. Ponich shot a bogey-free second round with a par-5 eagle in the mix. Senior Zac Jones (72-61–133) shot even par to be tied for 41st.
Host Arizona (275-239–514) is nine strokes behind BYU for the second-place spot. New Mexico State (273-252–525) rounds out the top three at 15-under.
