PROVO, Utah – Former BYU men’s basketball player Jake Shoff passed away on Thursday, Feb. 6 after a car accident.
Shoff played for the Cougars from 2001-04, appearing in 57 games and helped the Cougars make back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances. After redshirting the 2001-02 season, the Alpine native appeared in 30 games in 2002-03, including a start against UConn in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. He scored a career-high 15 points in a win over Pepperdine, going 6-of-6 from the field
He played 10 or more minutes in 19 games during his senior season, including 10 of the last 11. He was instrumental in helping the Cougars finish the regular season on an eight-game win streak, shooting better than 75.0 percent from the field.
He began his collegiate career at Weber State where he averaged 7.4 points and a team-high 6.0 rebounds per game as a sophomore. He appeared in 27 games as a true freshman before serving a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Honduras.
