"Mayci competed with an enormous amount of grit," said multi-events coach Tiffany Hogan. "I am proud of the effort she gave today. "
The junior from Salina, Utah advanced her No. 6 program ranking for a new pentathlon personal best in addition to taking third overall in the meet. While battling an injury through the course of the meet, Taylor earned a new personal best in the shot put with a 10.28m/33-8.75 throw, improving on her earlier top mark of 10.06m/33-0.25.
"I have fought through multiple injuries throughout this season and this meet was no different," said Taylor. "I was able to put up my best fight until the very end and that is what I am most proud of. I am grateful for my coach, trainer and teammate Summer for being there for me every step of the way today."
The meet also saw freshman newcomer Summer Young place ninth overall having earned 3481 points through the five events in her first outing in the pentathlon.
"Summer did amazing in her first pentathlon ever," continued Hogan. "She has only hurdled once before this meet and has never competed in a shot put or 800m before. In her debut pentathlon she put herself in contention to be an amazing combined event athlete at BYU."
