Cougs score season-high 195.825 in Denver

DENVER, Colo. – The BYU gymnastics team scored a season-high 195.825 Friday night, coming in right behind No. 21 Denver's 196.625.

Kylie Eaquinto competed in the all around for the third time of her career, scoring a 38.750.

The Cougars opened their night on the uneven bars. Ava Jorgensen tallied a team-high 9.800, followed by a 9.775 from all-arounder Eaquinto. 

With all six vaulters scoring above a 9.825 for the Pioneers, Denver led BYU 49.275-48.725 after the first rotation.

BYU built upon last week’s vault scores, posting a new season-high team score of 49.100.

Jadyn Harsh earned a career-high 9.825, followed by a season-high 9.825 from senior Melissa Earl. Jorgensen matched her bars score with a 9.800, tying her season-high on the apparatus. Eaquinto earned a new season high score of 9.850 and freshman Deb Silva anchored the Cougars with another 9.800.

After all five scores being above a 9.8 for the Cougars, they trailed the Pioneers by .525, 98.350-97.825.

Seniors Eliza Millar-Crossman and Heidi Schooley-Meyers tallied a pair of 9.8’s with their energetic floor routines. Eaquinto tied her season high with a 9.875, followed by Brynlee Andersen’s 9.825 as the Cougars ended the rotation with a 49.075.

Heading into the final rotation of the competition, Denver was ahead 147.450-146.900.

Sophie Dudley opened the beam rotation with a season-high 9.8, followed by a 9.825 from Millar-Crossman. Andersen, the two-time Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week, notched a 9.9, her fourth time scoring a 9.9 or above this season. The Cougars finished with a 48.925 beam score to close out the competition.

The Cougars are back in the Marriott Center for a Valentine’s Day meet as they face West Virginia Friday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. MT. The meet will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
