SAN DIEGO – Men’s golf (284-286–570) is tied for eighth after their first 36 holes at the Lamkin Invitational at San Diego Country Club.

Simon Kwon (68-70–138) leads the Cougars after the first day of the tournament. The junior is tied for 14th at 2-under par. Kwon recorded five birdies and an eagle in his opening round and added another eagle on his second hole in round two.

Junior Tyson Shelley is tied for 26th after his rounds of 70-71–141. Shelley made three birdies in a row on holes 10, 11 and 12 of his first round.

Tied for 52nd, Zac Jones notched rounds of 72 and 73 to have an overall score of 145.

“After 36 holes, I feel like I hit it pretty good,” Jones said. “I definitely need to hit some more close wedges, but my main goal is to make more putts. I hope a couple more putts fall tomorrow, but I will keep swinging free and stay patient.”

Senior Cole Ponich is tied for 68th and sophomore Peter Kim is tied for 78th.

Kevin Wu (71-77–148) is competing in the individual competition and stands tied for 63rd.
