"Both teams performed exceptionally well,” said director of track and field Ed Eyestone.  “I’m super pleased. It was a great improvement from last year. We came within a point of second place on the men's side, and we got second place on the women’s side. Amazing for the women to get second. For the men, third for a second year in the Big 12 is huge for us. We definitely made a big power statement, and we're excited in the direction. Overall, the performance team was phenomenal.”

Multi-event athlete Ben Barton took second in the heptathlon with 5944 points. It was a new school record for the Cougar from Bloomfield Hills, Mich. who knocked down his own previous record of 5814 points. His highlight of day two was a 7.85 outing in the 60-meter hurdles in which he took first overall.

"Ben did amazing the last two days," said multi-events coach Tiffany Hogan. "He is still learning the heptathlon and continues to improve at a remarkable rate. We are excited for his trajectory going into the national championships."

The men's middle-distance crew was headlined by true freshman Tyler Mathews took second overall in the final of the 800m with 1:47.67 finishing time. Mathews ran a program record earlier this season of 1:46.62. Carter Cutting contributed to the mid-distance squad with a third-place overall finish in the 1000-meter with an 2:21.48 finishing time.

"Tyler continues to impress," said mid-distance coach Ryan Waite. "The way he races and puts himself towards the front of these big meets makes you forget he’s a freshman. We’ll have to wait and see if he gets in to NCAA National Championships, or if we have him run the distance medley relay instead, but no matter what it was a season to remember and it sets him up for a great outdoor season and beyond."

The men's 400m final saw three Cougars in the mix. Josh Taylor crossed the finish-line in 46.00 to place fourth overall. Eli Hazlett recorded a 46.06 finishing time that placed him in sixth place and advanced to No. 2 all-time in BYU records. Trey Jackson crossed in 46.52 to finish eighth overall.

Danny Bryant showed out in the shot put with a 19.05m/62-6 mark that positioned him in fifth place. Bryant took seventh in the weight throw on day one with an 19.71m/ 64-8 mark.

The men's distance crew saw three Cougars in the top-six of the 5000m. Casey Clinger led BYU across the finish-line with a third place outing with a 7:55.57 finishing time. Creed Thompson followed closely behind in fourth place. His twin brother Davin crossed the finish in sixth.
