PROVO, Utah – BYU gymnastics will compete against West Virginia and Iowa State at the Maverik Center Saturday afternoon for the First Session of the Big 12 Gymnastics Championship. The Second Session will feature No. 4 Utah, No. 18 Denver, No. 21 Arizona and No. 24 Arizona State.

Team Highlights

  • For the fifth meet in a row, Kylie Eaquinto tallied three scores of 9.8 or higher, 9.8 on vault, 9.875 on bars and 9.8 on floor

THE COUGARS. BYU last competed at the Cal Quad Meet, taking home a third-place finish with its second-highest team score of the year, 196.325. No. 6 Cal took home first with a 197.750, followed by ASU’s 196.800. Washington rounded out the competition with a 195.450. The Cougars have now crossed the 196 threshold twice this season, with both coming in the last three weeks. BYU posted its fifth floor score above a 49.225, counting only scores above a 9.8 on the event. 

THE MOUNTAINEERS. West Virginia last competed at a quad meet on Sunday, Mar. 16 against No. 22 Ohio State, Kent State and Pitt. The Mountaineers took home a third-place finish with a final score of 195.850. The Buckeyes clinched the title with a 196.875, followed by Pitt’s 195.925. Kent State closed out with a 195.650. Big 12 Newcomer of the Week Sophia Rice earned a career-best 9.975 on vault.

THE CYCLONES. Iowa State set a season-high 196.100 at the Ameritas Master Classic on Friday, Mar. 14 for a second-place finish. No. 20 Nebraska took first with a 196.400, Texas Woman’s in third with a 195.975 and Temple in last with a 194.550. Haylee Hardin and Noelle Adams both earned 9.9s on floor to lead the Cyclones. Adams’ 9.9 was a new season high. She also notched a team-high beam score of 9.850.
