WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — The BYU gymnastics team scored a 196.275 as the highest score against Iowa State and West Virginia in the First Session of the 2025 Big 12 Gymnastics Championship at the Maverik Center Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars now await final scores from the second session of the championship, beginning at 5 p.m. MT.
Iowa State led through the first two rotations, but strong beam and floor rotations gave BYU the advantage. Iowa State came in second with a final score of 195.775 and West Virginia rounded out the group with 194.875.
With the highest individual score of the competition, fifth-year senior Anna Bramblett-Wilde led BYU and took the top spot on podium with a 9.925 on bars. Her season-high bars score earned her the top spot with Utah's Makenna Smith for the highest bars scores of the Big 12 Championship weekend.
BYU freshman Deb Silva took home first on vault with a 9.850, while Sophie Dudley and Brynlee Andersen shared the top spot on podium with Iowa State’s Frederique Sgarbossa with 9.875’s on beam.
The Cougars opened the Big 12 Championship on vault, while West Virginia started on bars and Iowa State began on the balance beam. Coming off her 9.925 last week, Silva led her team on vault with a 9.850, followed by a 9.8 from Kylie Eaquinto. With a 9.775 by Melissa Earl and a 9.750 from Mya Kirkham, the Cougars finished with a team vault score of 48.900.
Following the first rotation, Iowa State led with a 49.050, followed by BYU’s 48.900 and West Virginia’s 48.125.
Kirkham opened BYU’s second rotation with a 9.8 on bars, followed by a 9.850 from Eaquinto. Bramblett-Wilde scored a team-high 9.925 to match her season high on the apparatus. The Cougars ended with a team bars score of 49.050.
Iowa State held its narrow lead following the second rotation with a 98.150, followed by the Cougars at 97.950 and the Mountaineers with a 97.100.
Sophie Dudley opened on beam with a career-high 9.875. She was followed by Eliza Millar-Crossman’s new season-high of 9.850. Deb Silva made her career debut on beam, scoring a 9.775. Andersen anchored her team on beam, scoring a 9.875 to give BYU a team beam score of 49.150.
After a strong beam rotation, the Cougars took the lead with a 147.100, followed by Iowa State’s 146.950 and West Virginia’s 146.200.
Millar-Crossman opened BYU’s final rotation of the day with a 9.825 on floor. Senior Olivia Matern tied her career high with a 9.850, followed by another 9.850 from Dudley. Heidi Schooley-Meyers and Eaquinto notched a pair of 9.825’s before Andersen closed out the competition with a 9.800. BYU scored a 49.175 on floor, securing the victory over West Virginia and Iowa State.
