FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — Mackenzie Miller Lung swam 58.39 to take seventh in the 100 breast national final and earn BYU women’s swimming’s first All-American honor in 34 years.

“Mackenzie achieved something extraordinary today, shattering a 34-year-old drought at BYU,” said head swim and dive coach Tamber McAllister. “Her dedication and relentless effort throughout this past month and season have culminated in personal best times at the highest level, along with this All-America honor. I couldn’t be more proud of her perseverance and commitment to growth.”

Miller Lung secured her All-American finish with a personal-best 58.14 for a fifth-place spot in the 100 breast trials Friday morning. Just three weeks ago at Big 12 Championships, Miller Lung became the first-ever BYU woman to clock a sub-minute 100 breast. With a 0.46 second improvement on her 58.60 at Big 12’s, the junior from Clovis, California rewrites her own school record and sets her sixth of the season.

Miller Lung’s fifth-place trials finish came 0.32 seconds ahead of Virginia’s Emma Weber. Weber helped Team USA’s 400 medley relay squad to gold just seven months ago at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Miller Lung earned BYU women’s swimming’s first All-American honor since Hiroko Nagasaki did so in the 200 breast in 1991. BYU women’s swimming last recorded an Honorable Mention All-America honor in 2007 with Angela Goodson-Price in the 100 fly.

BYU diver Alexia Jackson Hansen completed her first career NCAA Championships entry on Friday on 3-meter. Jackson Hansen totaled 270.65 points to take 33rd.

The Cougars’ two nationals reps, Miller Lung and Jackson Hansen, will resume events on Saturday at 10 a.m. PDT on ESPN+ with Miller Lung in the 200 breast and Jackson Hansen on platform.
