PROVO, Utah – BYU men’s baseball lost 20-6 to No. 23 West Virginia behind 15 runs in the seventh and eighth innings on Friday evening. The Cougars have now split the series 1-1, winning the first, 14-5 on Thursday night. The series finale will be on Saturday at noon MDT.

BYU tied the game 1-1 after the end of the second inning. Hurdsman doubled twice in his first two at-bats and scored on both. This effort helped to keep the Cougars in it, as they fell down 3-2 through four.
The explosion came in the seventh, as West Virginia scored seven runs, stretching its lead to 12-2. BYU was unable to stop the scoring as West Virginia kept it going in the eighth with eight more runs to take a 20-2 lead.
In the ninth, the Cougars would find home plate four times before the game ended. Wolfgramm hit a double to get two RBIs, and Beck had two RBIs as well with a two-out single.
The Cougars would eventually fall 20-6 after their longest nine-inning game of the year and nearly four hours of play. After two lopsided games, BYU will play again tomorrow at 12 p.m. MDT in the rubber match to finish the series. Watch game three on ESPN+ or listen live on BYU Radio.
