STANFORD, Calif. – The Cougars (275-286–561) are in sixth place at 1-over-par after the first 36 holes of The Goodwin at Stanford Golf Course on Friday.

“We started a little sloppy today, but I was impressed with the way our guys fought all morning,” head coach Bruce Brockbank said. “We hit some great shots on the back nine, just weren’t able to make the putts. We need to play a great final round tomorrow and we’ll have a chance.”

With his 1-over 71 from today, Peter Kim (67-71–138) remains in the lead for BYU, tied for ninth. Kim carded 28 pars, the most out of any individual in the competition.

SMU and No. 15 UCLA are tied for the lead at 5-under 555. Santa Clara is in third, two strokes back, while Northwestern and Colorado round out the top five.

Senior Zac Jones (70-70–140) is tied for 21st. Jones made four birdies in today’s round. The Highland, Utah native was able to rise nine spots with his performance from today.

Simon Kwon is close behind his teammate with rounds of 68-73–141, putting him in a tie for 24th. Kwon leads the field in the par-4 category, averaging 3.70 on each.

Tied for 35th, Cole Ponich shot a 2-over 72 in today’s round. The senior has a total score of 70-72–142, highlighted by four birdies in each round.

Tyson Shelley is tied for 131st, while Kevin Wu, competing as an individual, is tied for 66th at 5-over. Wu made an eagle on the par-5 16th hole.

“The leaderboard is really bunched up,” Director of Golf Todd Miller said. “I think the guys feel confident that they can shoot another low round like they did at Silverado Resort and end up on top. We need to make some early birdies and get some momentum.”

The Cougars tee off in their final round on Saturday at 1 p.m. MST. Follow live scoring on Scoreboard.
