AZUSA, Calif. – BYU’s distance crew continued to rewrite the record book on Friday evening at the Bryan Clay Invitational as Carter Cutting became the eighth-fastest 1,500-meter runner in program history.
The sophomore became just the 10th Cougar to ever run under 3:40 in the event after crossing the finish line in 3:39.09 nearly two seconds faster than he ran in his season opener earlier this month at the Stanford Invitational.
In his first time running the metric mile, Olympian James Corrigan ran 3:41.71 to finish third in his heat and 22nd overall. All-American Sebastian Fernandez ran the sixth-fasest time of the open divsion with a personal best time of 3:45.50.
Beach Invitational
Danny Bryant recorded his third Top 10 finish of the week with a 10th place finish in the hammer throw. The senior’s best mark of the competition coming on his third attempt, 61.96m/203-3.
The senior won the shot put and finished sixth in the discus throw at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate on Thursday evening.
Carson Riner also finished 10th in the javelin with a throw of 59.67m/195-9 on his third and final attempt of the competition. The freshman has now finished in the Top 10 in three consecutive meets includign a win at the Utah Valley Collegiate in late March.
Mt. SAC Relays
Trey Jackson and Eli Hazlett had a strong showing in the 400-meters as the duo finished second and third. In his season debut in the event, Jackson ran 46.27 with Hazlett right behind with a seasonal best time of 46.30.
Logan Hubler recorded a Top 10 finish in the 110-meter hurdles running 14.27 to finish third in his heat and 10th overall. The junior would also run 55.80 in the 400-meter hurdles where Trevor Gough was the top finisher for the Cougars in 19th, 53.63.
