Taylor named Governor's State of Sport Awards Coach of the Year

PROVO, Utah — BYU head women's cross country coach and associate director of track and field Diljeet Taylor has been named the 2025 State of Sport Coach of the Year, as selected by a nominating committee made up of Utah's sports professionals and media.

Cross Country

Coach Taylor led her BYU women's cross country squad to an NCAA championship in 2024 and three women to all All-America honors: Lexy Halladay-Lowry, Riley Chamberlain, and Carmen Alder. During nine seasons as the Cougars' head cross country coach, she has guided nine athletes to 19 All-America honors, earned two team national titles, coached Whittni Morgan to an individual national championship and led the team to nine consecutive top-15 finishes. Taylor also coached her women to back-to-back Big 12 championships in 2023 and 2024. 

This past season she was named the USTFCCCA National Coach of the Year, Mountain Region Coach of the Year and Big 12 Coach of the Year.

Track & Field

BYU's distance medley relay won its second-straght national title at the 2025 NCAA indoor track and field championships under Taylor's leadership. She also coached Lexy-Halladay-Lowry to a runner-up finish in the 5000-meters, a third-place finish in the 3000m, conference championship in the 5000m and Riley Chamberlain to a conference championship in the mile.  

Following the 2025 indoor track and field season, Taylor was recognized as USTFCCCA Mountain Region Women's Assistant Coach of the Year for the fifth time of her tenure in Provo. 

Professional

Taylor coached Courtney Wayment and Whittni Morgan to spots on Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Most recently, Nike hired Taylor to coach its Swoosh TC club in Provo. She also serves on Nike's Athlete Think Tank to help champion women and girls in sport.
