PROVO, Utah — For the second time in less than a week, BYU baseball will take on Utah Valley, this time on Monday, April 21 at 6 p.m. MDT at UCCU Ballpark in Orem.

SERIES HISTORY. BYU and Utah Valley meet for the second time during the 2025 season and 49th matchup all-time on Monday. The crosstown foes have met at least once each season since 2005 with the Cougars leading the series 37-11, including 18-7 in games played at UCCU Ballpark. BYU has won 16 of its last 18 meetings with the Wolverines and is looking to win both games of the annual home-road series for the first time since 2022.
Sophomore shortstop Ryder Robinson powered the Cougars to a 9-3 win over UVU on April 15 at Miller Park with three doubles, an RBI and a run scored. BYU’s nine runs came on 13 hits with Crew McChesney, Tate Gambill, Keoni Painter and Luke Anderson each adding two hits a-piece.
The Cougars enter game two of the 2025 season series with UVU having won or tied six series on the year, including Fresno State, CSUN, Gonzaga, Stetson, Cincinnati and Utah Tech.
COUGAR WEEK IN REVIEW. BYU (19-18, 7-8 Big 12) is coming off a 2-2 week that opened with the win over UVU, before going 1-2 in a weekend series with No. 22 ranked Arizona (12-5, 4-5, 5-7) at Miller Park.
BAT CATS. Five Cougars enter Monday’s matchup with the Wolverines hitting over .300 on the year. Outfielder Bryker Hurdsman is hitting .346 with 12 doubles, 21 RBI and has scored 40 runs. Second baseman Brock Watkins is hitting .351 with 32 RBI and 24 runs. Luke Anderson, who has played three positions for BYU in 2025, is the Cougars’ RBI leader with 42 on the season while hitting .327 with 29 runs. Outfielder Keoni Painter is hitting .328 with 16 runs and 12 RBI, while fellow outfielder Tate Gambill is hitting .322 with 18 RBI and 12 runs scored.
BYU first baseman Cooper Vest is hitting .299 and leads BYU in runs (43), home runs (12), triples (2) and total bases (93), and is second in RBI (41) and slugging (.633). He is among the top 10 in the Big 12 in runs, home runs, RBI, total bases and slugging. Several other Cougars are top 10 in the conference including Anderson in RBIs, Hurdsman in runs scored and Watkins in slugging.
KNOW THE FOE. Since losing in Provo a week ago, the Wolverines dropped two of three games during a weekend home series with Western Athletic Conference foe Tarleton State (14-2, 7-10, 6-12).
Despite losing two of three to the Texans, the Wolverines (25-15, 10-5) remain atop the WAC standings. Forty games into head coach Nate Rasmussen’s first season, UVU has series wins over Grand Canyon, Utah Tech, Abilene Christian, Seattle U and UC Riverside. After a fourth-place finish (29-29, 18-12) in the WAC in 2024, the Wolverines were picked to finish sixth in 2025.
