2025 Gymnastics Season Review

In the 2025 season, BYU women’s gymnastics finished as the No. 30 team in the nation and made a run to the NCAA Regionals tournament. The Cougars racked up new high scores in their second season in the Big 12 Conference for a season full of highlights.

PROVO, Utah – The 2025 BYU women’s gymnastics squad finished the season as the No. 30 team in the nation and made a run to the NCAA Regionals tournament. The Cougars brought home several Big 12 accolades and national recognition for a season full of highlights.

In their second year in the Big 12 conference, BYU brought home five conference honors.

Following the Big 12 Gymnastics Championship, senior Anna Bramblett-Wilde was named Co-Bars Champion with Utah’s Makenna Smith. Sophomore Brynlee Andersen was named to the 2025 All-Big 12 Beam Team and was named the Co-Event Specialist of the Year, while freshman Deb Silva was named to the All-Big 12 All-Freshman Team. Eliza Millar-Crossman earned her second-straight All-Big 12 Scholar Athlete of the Year honors.

The 2025 team finished the season with a 196 average and a 196.025 National Qualifying Score (NQS). The Cougars reached the top-25 rankings once this season, coming in at No. 22 in week two. 

The Cougars finished their second year as members of the Big 12 conference with an overall record of 9-16, going 3-3 in conference matchups and 3-3 at home in the Marriott Center. They finished ranked No. 24 on floor, No. 26 on vault, No. 35 on the balance beam and No. 36 on the uneven bars.

BYU hosted five home meets this season and averaged 3,230 fans in attendance. The Cougars had their biggest crowd when in-state rival and then-No. 4 ranked Utah came to the Marriott Center, boasting the fourth-highest home crowd in program history of 4,420 fans.

BYU said goodbye to nine seniors after the 2025 season: Sydney Benson, Bramblett-Wilde, Karsyn Foster, Olivia Matern, Heidi Schooley-Meyers, Mina Margraf-Benson, Millar-Crossman, Sophie Dudley and Melissa Earl.

Deb Silva

As a true freshman, the Lindon, Utah native competed on vault in every meet except one this season. She also competed on floor in four competitions and on the balance beam for the final three meets of the year. Earning a career- and team-high 9.925 on vault at the Cal quad meet in March, Silva earned a perfect score of 9.950 from one judge. Following this score, she earned her first-ever Big 12 Newcomer of the Week award. Ending the season with career-high scores of 9.825 and 9.800 on beam and floor, respectively, Silva was named to the All-Big 12 All-Freshman Team. She also qualified for regionals as an individual on vault for the first time of her career.

Chloee Hoke

Despite being on the 2024 roster, Hoke made her collegiate debut on the balance beam at the opening competition of the season in Nashville. Competing on beam in all but one meet this season, Hoke scored a career-high 9.875 at the second day of NCAA Regionals. She also competed on vault in three meets this season, earning a career-high score of 9.775 at Arizona.

Mya Kirkham

After competing in the first meet of 2024 and missing the rest of the season due to injury, Kirkham became a staple competitor for the Cougars for the 2025 season. To open the year, Kirkham competed on vault, bars and beam. She competed in the all-around for the first time of her career at Oregon State, earning a score of 38.400. She notched season-high scores of 9.850 on both vault and bars this season. Competing on bars in every meet, Kirkham notched five scores above 9.8.

Kylie Eaquinto

The junior from Orem, Utah has proved to be a Cougar standout since her freshman year at BYU, and this season was no different. Eaquinto qualified for regionals (vault, bars) as an individual for the second time of her career and held BYU’s highest individual score of 9.925 on floor for the second year in a row. Earning her first-ever Big 12 Gymnast of the Week award in week eight, Eaquinto competed on vault and bars in every meet, and on floor in all but one. Eaquinto went eight straight weeks with all three of her event scores coming in at 9.8 or above to close out the season. For the first time of her career, Eaquinto competed in the all-around three times this year, earning her highest score at Oregon State with a 39.050.

Brynlee Andersen

BYU’s sophomore beam queen from Orem, Utah qualified as an individual for regionals for the second year in a row, and qualified for nationals on beam for the first time of her career. Scoring a 9.9 on beam both days at regionals, Andersen became BYU’s first individual national qualifier since 2021. Competing at the National Semifinal, she earned a score of 9.825 for a 16th-place finish at the competition. With an NQS of 9.905 and a national ranking of 24th, Andersen earned several Big 12 awards. She earned Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week three times and was named Big 12 Co-Event Specialist of the Year following the season. Andersen was also named to the All-Big 12 Beam Team after notching eight scores at 9.9 or above this year.

Eliza Millar-Crossman

Millar-Crossman excelled both in the gym and in the classroom this year, earning her second-straight Big 12 Scholar Athlete of the Year award. She competed on beam in every meet and on floor in all but one meets, earning a season-high 9.850 on both events. She notched 10 scores at 9.8 or above with her energetic floor routine. Because of her success both on and off the mats, head coach Guard Young nominated Millar-Crossman for the prestigious 2025 AAI Award. She was amongst 59 senior gymnasts nominated for the award, one of just eight from the Big 12 Conference.

Heidi Schooley-Meyers

Schooley-Meyers became one of BYU’s most consistent floor specialists her senior season. She competed on floor in every meet, scoring a season-high 9.875 at the Cal quad meet. After the first four meets of the year, Schooley-Meyers notched floor scores at 9.8 or above in the final 11competitions.

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS 

BYU opened its 2025 campaign at the inaugural Nashville Invitational and competed against No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 23 Nebraska and No. 17 Auburn. The Cougars earned a third-place finish with a final team score of 194.625. The Cougars followed-up with their first dual meet of the season taking on Olympian Jade Carey and the Beavers at No. 9 Oregon State before hosting its first home meet of the year against SUU. 

The Cougars took on in-state talents Utah, SUU and Utah State at the sixth-annual Les Olson IT Best of Utah competition, earning a fourth-place finish with a score of 195.750.

BYU collected its first Big 12 victory against West Virginia at the Marriott Center on Valentine’s Day with a final score of 195675. 

The Cougars broke 196.000 for the first time on senior night at the Marriott Center. After that final home meet of the season, BYU secured team scores of 196 or higher in three more meets, including the Big 12 Championship and the second day of the NCAA Regionals. 

BYU posted its highest event score with a 49.325 on floor which was achieved twice against West Virginia and Arizona State. 

The Cougars’ highest overall team score came at the final home meet of the season where they beat Arizona State 196.775-196.000. 

BYU competed in the afternoon session of the Big 12 Championship, taking home the highest score of the meet with a 196.275. Following the evening session, the Cougars earned an overall fourth-place finish out of the seven participating teams.

Bringing the season to a close, BYU accepted an invitation to the NCAA Utah Regional, hosted by the Utes at the Jon M. Huntsman Center. On April 2, the team went head-to-head with Utah State and walked away with the 195.950-194.475 win to advance to the second day of regionals. Competing against No. 4 Utah, No. 13 Stanford and No. 18 Denver, the Cougars earned a fourth-place finish and final score of 196.000.

BYU had four gymnasts qualify for regionals as individual competitors: Eaquinto (vault, bars), Andersen (beam), Silva (vault) and Bramblett-Wilde (bars).

This season, freshman standout Silva earned the highest vault score with a 9.925, receiving a perfect score from one judge. Bramblett-Wilde led on bars with a 9.925 which she scored twice in her final season with the Cougs. Andersen led the team on beam for the second year in a row with a season-high 9.950, while Eaquinto earned the highest floor score for the second year in a row with a 9.925.
