TULSA, Okla. – Men’s golf sits tied for seventh after the first two rounds of the Big 12 Championship at Southern Hills Country Club on Tuesday.

“That is one of the most challenging courses I have ever coached on,” Director of Golf Todd Miller said. “The greens were soft and extremely fast, so it was difficult to keep the ball from spinning off the greens. We stayed present and focused most of the day, but struggled on the last nine holes. We will analyze our strategy and see how we can improve. The guys will be ready to go tomorrow.”

Zac Jones leads the Cougars after the first day with his 2-over 142, placing him in a tie for sixth. The senior made one birdie alongside 15 pars in his first round, and made another three birdies in his second round.

“The course today played challenging, as close to a major championship set up as you’ll see in collegiate golf,” Jones said. “I drove the ball extremely well and feel really good about where my game is at. It’s tough to finish with a double bogey, but I’m still in a good spot and excited to get after it tomorrow.”

No. 5 Arizona State holds the top spot with their 1-over 561. No. 4 Oklahoma State is four strokes behind them in second place, and TCU, Colorado and Houston rounded out the top five.

Senior Cole Ponich shot 6-over 146, placing him tied for 23rd. Ponich made three birdies in round one and five in round two.

Peter Kim is tied for 52nd and Simon Kwon is tied for 71st.
