LOGAN, Utah — Gretchen Hoekstre threw a lifetime best in the shot put Saturday afternoon at Ralph Maughan Track Stadium.

The senior from Seaside, Oregon launched the shot put 17.43-meters/57-2.25 to improve upon her BYU No. 2 all-time mark and win the Aggie Invitational. Hoekstre’s throw currently ranks No. 14 in the NCAA and No. 3 in the Big 12.

“I have been trying to connect like that all season long, and this is the first time I was able to put a whole meet together,” said Hoekstre. “It puts me in a great position going into championship season. That shot put school record is within my grasp, and I’m going to do everything in my power in the last college meets of my career to get my name on the top of that board.”

Kat Beachler also earned a lifetime best in the shot put with her throw of 15.08m/49-5.75. The freshman from Omaha, Nebraska, now ranks No. 7 all-time in BYU’s outdoor record books.

In the sprints and hurdles group, Lindsey Middleton clocked a personal best of 13.60 in the 100m hurdles, placing second. Freshmen Nadia Chiara and Remy Romney also ran personal bests of 14.33 and 14.50, finishing sixth and seventh, respectively.

In the 400m hurdles, freshman Annie Nuttall placed second with a time of 1:00.72, a personal best by over a second. Middleton finished closely behind in third with a time of 1:01.15, and Madelynne Taggart took fourth at 1:02.53.

Hoekstre also won the discus with a season-best throw of 56.24m/184-6. She owns the school record in the event with a mark of 57.04m/187-2 set at the 2024 NCAA West Preliminary Round. Brooklyn Montgomery placed fourth with a personal-best throw of 47.64m/156-3, and Jayda Lee finished fifth at 45.45m/149-1.

Cate Phipps Louis won the 100m dash with an all-conditions personal best of 11.86 Freshman Katie Hutchings followed closely behind in second, clocking an all-conditions personal best of 11.92.

Phipps Louis won her second event of the day with an all-conditions personal best of 24.77 in the 200m. Freshman Mikensi Smith placed second in 25.09.
