PROVO – Aidan Troutner broke the 5,000-meter facility record on Friday morning at the Robison Invitational.

Troutner became the first runner to break 14 minutes in the 5,000m at Clarence F. Robison Track & Field picking up the victory in 13:59.95. His time broke the facility record with the Provo native running seven seconds faster than Arizona’s Marc Davis ran to win the 5,000m at the 1989 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Davin Thompson nearly ran under the previous facility record as he finished third in 14:09.56. Berkley Nance finished fourth in 14:26.14 with Noah Jenkins rounding out the Top 5 in 14:28.79.

Brinton Paulson moved up to sixth on the all-time list in the javelin as the junior picked up the second victory of his collegiate career. The Orem native unleashed a throw of 69.86m/229-2.75 on his fourth attempt of the competition to move from 10th to sixth on the all-time list passing Kraymer Eppich, Sam Jennings, Wyatt Warnick and Michael Whittaker. Carson Riner finished third with a personal best throw of 66.02m/216-7.25.

Jaden Roskelley finished the opening day of the decathlon in first place with 4,361 points. After running a personal best time of 10.74 in the 100m for 919 points, Roskelley had the best jump of the competition with a mark of 7.56m/24-9.75 for 950 points. The sophomore continued his strong performance with 745 points in the shot put followed by a personal best clearance of 2.10m/6-11 in the high jump for 906 points.

Ben Barton sits in second after five events with 4,259 points. He opened the day running 10.51 in the 100-meter dash for 973 points. He followed that up with 771 points in the long jump with a mark of 6.81m/22-4.5. He added 737 points in the shot put and 794 points in the high jump before running 46.49 for 984 points in the 400-meters.

The Cougars took the top three spots in the 400-meter hurdles with Brayden Dahl finishing first running a personal best time of 50.82. It marked the first consecutive victory for the sophomore after running 51.87 last week at the Aggie Invitational in his first-ever time running the long hurdles. Jace Jensen and Garrett Copelin also ran personal bests as they finished second and third running 51.12 and 52.31 respectively.

Riley Hunt was one of four Cougars to advance to Friday’s 110-meter hurdle final had the fastest time of the day, 14.18. Logan Hubler had the second-fastest time in qualifying, 14.25, with Copelin and Jayden Jesse also slate to compete in the final scheduled for 12:55 p.m.

Moving down in distance, Tyler Mathews picked up another win for the Cougars in the 400m running 47.53.

Austin Cox recorded a runner-up finish in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.99m/16-4.75. Ethan Amata also cleared 4.99m/16-4.75 but had to settle for third due to misses.
