Hutchins runs BYU's No. 2 all-time mark in 5000m

STANFORD, Calif. - Jenna Hutchins moved up to No. 2 all-time at BYU in the 5000-meters Friday night at Cobb Track & Angell Field.

Hutchins ran an 18-second personal best to win the 12.5 lap event. The junior from Johnson City, Tennessee clocked 15:16.95 for BYU's No. 2 all-time mark and the 17th-fastest time ever run in the NCAA. 

"The race felt great and I was so grateful for Lexy (Halladay-Lowry) and her amazing pacing job," said Hutchins. "Everything lined up perfectly and I wanted to take advantage of the great conditions. Most importantly, I wanted to inspire younger girls in the sport and show them that anything is possible with the right support system and the determination to never give up on your goals."

Carlee Hansen crossed the 5000m finish line in 15:43.54 to put her name on the program's No. 7 all-time spot and place second in section two. The senior from Bountiful, Utah is also No. 7 all-time for the Cougars in the women's indoor mile running 4:33.04 at the 2025 Husky Classic.

Vanessa Alder earned her first BYU top-10 mark with a time of 33:29.92 in the 10,000m. The sophomore from Pinehurst, North Carolina ranks No. 8 all-time in the event. 

Senior Destiny Everett also ran a top-10 mark in the 10,000m with her personal-best time of 33:30.31 to rank No. 10 on the program's record board. 

Other top performances from the Stanford Invitational include Taylor Lovell and Carmen Alder's outdoor personal bests in the 5000m with times of 15:52.15 and 15:56.62, and freshman Tessa Buswell's seventh-place finish in her debut 1500m race with a time of 4:17.26.

Gretchen Hoekstre won the elite discus competition at the Triton Invite. The senior from Seaside, Oregon launched a new season best of 54.42m/178-6. Hoekstre also earned a personal best of 50.61m/166-0 en route to an eighth-place finish. 

Jea Genet placed third in the javelin with a throw of 49.73m/163-2. The freshman from Gilbert, Arizona is ranked No. 2 on BYU's all-time record board with a toss of 54.62m/179-2 at the Willie Williams Classic March 21. 

Alysa Keller finished in fourth in the javelin with a season-best throw of 48.58m/159-4. Keller ranks No. 5 on the program's all-time record board with a lifetime best of 51.86m/170-1 at the 2024 Big 12 championships.
