CARLSBAD, Calif. – No. 19 BYU sits in 18th place after two rounds of the NCAA Championship at Omni La Costa Resort after posting a team total of 589 (289-300) on Saturday.

Junior Tyson Shelley leads the Cougars and sits tied for 25th at even par (71-73–144). Shelley delivered a clean front nine in his second round, avoiding bogeys and dropping in two birdies to pace BYU.

No. 5 Arizona State surged up the leaderboard, jumping four spots to claim the top spot at 13-under through 36 holes. No. 6 Oklahoma trails by three shots, while No. 1 Auburn holds third at 8-under. Rounding out the top five are No. 7 Florida and No. 9 Florida State.

Sophomore Peter Kim turned in a solid performance on day two and sits in 33rd at 1-over (71-74–145). Kim's steady hand was on display with 12 pars in his second round. His 3.85 average on par 4s ranks fifth among all competitors.

Senior Cole Ponich is tied for 97th at 7-over. Simon Kwon follows at 8-over, tied for 104th, and Zac Jones rounds out the Cougars' lineup, tied for 140th.

If BYU’s third round, played on Thursday, lands the Cougars in the top 15, they will advance to a final round of 18 holes on Monday. Tee times are to be announced. Follow live scoring on Scoreboard.
