CARLSBAD, Calif. – No. 19 BYU (289-300-289-292–1170) tied for 13th place at the NCAA Championship on Monday evening.
Cole Ponich led the Cougars, tying for 55th individually with a 7-over-par 295 (74-77-72-72). He made two birdies in his final round.
The eight teams that advanced to the match play portion of the tournament are No. 5 Arizona State, No. 1 Auburn, No. 7 Florida, No. 2 Oklahoma State, No. 6 Oklahoma, No. 4 Texas, No. 10 Virginia and No. 3 Ole Miss.
Junior Tyson Shelley finished 65th at 10-over 298 (71-73-81-73), opening his front nine Monday with two birdies and no bogeys.
Senior Zac Jones, competing in his final tournament for BYU, tied for 67th at 12-over. He recorded three birdies on his front nine in the final round.
Peter Kim tied for 70th, and Simon Kwon tied for 72nd.
Although BYU did not advance, the Cougars recorded the fifth-most pars in the field with 220.
