Canada Basketball announced the hire of Nell Fortner as the new Senior Women's National Team head coach on Monday and rolled out the framework of the program and player expectations around commitment, accountability and culture. Along with the hire, Canada Basketball also revealed the names of the 25 athletes who have committed to the program through the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Germany.

After finishing fourth at the 2022 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup and making four-straight Olympic appearances, a program best, the team returns several vital veterans. Canada also adds a new generation of college and high school standouts to its player pool for 2025-26.

BYU’s Gibb is one of six active college players selected to the athlete pool along with North Carolina incoming freshman Taliyah Henderson, Michigan sophomore Syla Swords, South Carolina incoming freshman Agot Makeer, Villanova sophomore Jasmine Bascoe and Washington sophomore Averly Howell.

Canada’s Senior Women’s National Team will compete in the 2025 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup, with the top six teams earning a spot in the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup Qualifying Tournament in March 2026. The team will also hold a training camp this November in Victoria, B.C., to prepare for the next FIBA World Cup qualification stage.

Further details regarding summer programming, the coaching staff, and the team’s roadmap to the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup will be announced in the coming weeks.
