LEXINGTON, Ky. — Incoming freshman Trey Thornton was named a 2025 Boys High School Volleyball First Team All-American by the AVCA, the association announced Wednesday morning.

Thornton is one of ten high school players in the country named to the First Team, and is the only player from Utah on the full list.

A 6-foot-7 outside hitter/opposite from Spanish Fork, Thornton was named Mr. Volleyball by Deseret News for two years in a row. He is also a back-to-back Utah state champion, recently claiming a second consecutive championship for Maple Mountain High School in May 2025.

Thornton is one of six members of the 2025 signing class for BYU men's volleyball, including Corbin Batista, Evan Olmstead, Layton Bluth, Tyler Johnson and Max Philippe.

He is also the son of BYU women’s basketball alumna Alisha Thornton, who played for the Cougars from 1998-2000.
