PROVO, Utah – The USTFCCCA announced the seventh update for The Bowerman Men’s Watch List on Thursday and BYU’s James Corrigan is on it.
The Bowerman debuted in 2009 and is named after former Oregon head coach Bill Bowerman. It is presented annually to the most outstanding male and female NCAA track & field athletes in the nation.
Corrigan makes the list for a fourth time this season, as he enters the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships undefeated in the 3,000-meter steeplechase this season. He won his heat of the steeplechase at the NCAA West Regional last week in 8:31.79 to punch his ticket to Eugene, Ore. He became the first Cougar since Kyle Perry in 2009 to win multiple distance events at a conference meet as the junior won the 5,000-meters and defended his title in the steeplechase at the Big 12 Championships, breaking meet records in both events.
The native of Los Angeles, Calif. finished ninth in the steeplechase at last year’s NCAA outdoor championships, earning Second Team All-American honors. Two weeks later, he would finish third at the US Olympic Trials before running a school-record 8:13.87 at the Penn Relays Summer Showcase to secure his spot on the Olympic Team. He would go on to finish 10th in his heat at The XXXIII Olympic Games in Paris, France.
