PROVO, Utah — Former BYU men's tennis standout Jack Barnett has been named assistant coach for BYU women's tennis, head coach Holly Hasler announced Wednesday.
Barnett returns to Provo after a successful collegiate career from 2018-23, where he played a pivotal role for the Cougars. A team captain and No. 1 singles and doubles player, Barnett was named to the WCC All-Academic First Team three times and earned All-WCC honors in both singles and doubles.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Jack Barnett to the BYU Women’s Tennis program,” Hasler said. “As a former standout player on the BYU men’s team, and gaining valuable coaching experience last year with the men’s program, he brings a unique blend of high-level playing and coaching insight. His energy, passion for the game and love for BYU make him a perfect fit, and I’m excited for the impact he’ll have on our team both on and off the court.”
Barnett spent the 2023–24 season as a volunteer assistant coach for the men’s tennis program under head coach Zack Warren. Warren, a BYU alumni who became the men’s tennis head coach in 2023, has extensive coaching experience, including a decade with the University of California women’s tennis program and multiple Regional Assistant Coach of the Year honors.
The Australia native enjoyed a decorated five-year playing career in Provo. Barnett consistently played at the top of the lineup, earning All-West Coast Conference singles second-team honors in both 2021 and 2022 and compiling 69 singles and 62 doubles victories during his career.
“Jack will undoubtedly bring his experience as one of the best BYU tennis players in program history,” Warren said. “I’m excited for Jack and this next step as the assistant coach for Holly and the women’s tennis program. Jack leans into what BYU stands for and always wants what’s best for the tennis programs. He will tirelessly work to see that BYU tennis is competing on the national stage and will continue to be an example and inspire the next generation of BYU players.”
Barnett, who graduated in 2024 with a degree in psychology, made an immediate impact at BYU, leading as a team captain and playing a significant role in shaping a strong, winning culture.
“I am super excited to be joining the coaching staff for the women’s tennis team,” Barnett said. “Since being a player at BYU, I’ve been a big fan of Holly, and she has done such an amazing job with the girls. It’s an incredible opportunity, and I’m looking forward to working with such a talented group of athletes and contributing to the program’s continued success!”
