ATLANTA — BYU safety Tanner Wall has been named to the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Watch List for the 2025 football season. Established in 2005, the trophy is presented annually by the Wuerffel Foundation to the FBS football player who best combines exemplary community service, academic excellence and athletic achievement.
Wall received All-Big 12 Third Team recognition by College Football Network for his play last season while also achieving CSC Academic All-America First Team honors for his excellence in the classroom. In addition, he earned recognition on both the Fall Academic All-Big 12 Team and Commissioner's Honor Roll in both 2023 and 2024. Wall is majoring in finance and has a cumulative GPA of 3.89.
A senior from Arlington, Virginia, Wall started all 13 games as a junior for BYU in 2024 and was the team co-leader in interceptions with three while ranking fourth in total tackles with 53, including 31 unassisted. The 6-1, 205-pound safety also had four pass defection and a pass breakup.
In July 2025, Wall was named a candidate for the prestigious Allstate American Football Coaches Association Good Works Team.
In addition to his success on the field and in his academic studies, Wall, a co-captain, has been very involved in a variety of community service endeavors. He currently coordinates the BYU football efforts with the BYU Pathway Worldwide program that helps mentor hundreds of students from across Africa and the South Pacific to become more conversational in English.
He also serves as the co-chair of the BYU Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Service Committee, which provides service opportunities for student-athletes in the local community.
In addition, Wall speaks regularly at local school events and church devotionals for youth to inspire them to pursue education and value learning and discipline. Along with other members of the BYU football team, he also makes weekly Friday visits to patients at Utah Valley Hospital who are struggling with illness.
Wall recently returned from a summer trip to Israel where he and other BYU football players helped run a youth camp for the American Football Israel League. They also worked closely with Osimschuna Israel on a large service project in Ashqelon, organizing and the cleaning common area of an apartment building.
The Wuerffel Trophy is named after Heisman Trophy winner and College Football Hall of Fame inductee Danny Wuerffel, whose life mission is to inspire greater service in the world. This year marks the 21st anniversary of the award.
For the second consecutive year, the Wuerffel Foundation is partnering with Allstate to unite college football’s top community service honors through the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. Eleven student-athletes from the Watch List will be named to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team and serve as semifinalists for the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy.
The 2025 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy finalists and recipient will be selected by a national voting committee, with input from a fan vote. The 2025 recipient will also serve as Captain of the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team and will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards show on Dec. 12, airing on ESPN. The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Presentation Gala will follow on Jan. 31, 2026, at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
