SANTIAGO, Chile – BYU guard Delaney Gibb completed her first tournament with the Canadian Senior National Team as Canada earned the bronze medal at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup on Sunday.
"This experience with the Senior Team was amazing," said Gibb. "It has been so cool to be able to live out my dream of playing with the Canadian Senior National Team and winning a medal while doing it. Earning a medal is the ultimate goal of every team and to be able to earn a bronze medal means so much to me and is truly a dream come true."
Gibb appeared in all seven games during her first stint with the Canadian Senior National Team at the FIBA AmeriCup in Santiago, Chile. The BYU standout averaged 9.1 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists en route to a 6-1 record and a bronze medal.
The Canadians opened the group stage with a 100-34 win over El Salvador on June 28. Gibb played 10 minutes and went 3-for-7 from the field for nine points, all of which come from behind the arc, in her first action with the Senior National Team.
On June 29, Canada took down Argentina 71-48 to move to 2-0 in the group stage through two games. Gibb played 13 minutes and scored two points while also recording two rebounds, an assist and a steal.
In its third game of the tournament, Canada fell to Brazil by a score of 74-65. The Big 12 Freshman of the Year was a bright spot for the Canadians as she played 10 minutes and scored seven points on 3-of-5 shooting going 1-for-2 from three. She also contributed two rebounds, two steals and an assist.
Canada got back on track in the final game of the group stage with an 82-46 win over the Dominican Republic in which Gibb turned in a 21-point performance, her best of the tournament. Gibb led all scorers with an efficient 8-for-16 outing from the field, going 4-of-6 from behind the loop while grabbing six rebounds and an assist in the win.
After a 3-1 record in the group stage, Gibb helped Canada earn a trip to the semi-finals by knocking off Columbia, 73-49, in the quarterfinal. Gibb played 19 minutes and turned in seven points on just five shots with two assists and a rebound in the win.
Gibb turned in a nine-point, four-rebound performance that included three steals and an assist in the semifinal against the United States. Despite Gibb being the second-leading scorer for Canada, the United States pulled off a second-half comeback to beat the Canadians 65-53 in the semifinals.
Canada and Gibb faced Argentina on Sunday in a bronze medal game that needed two overtime periods to decide a winner. Gibb went 3-for-8 from the field and 2-of-4 from deep with five rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block, including the game-winning assist in double overtime, to lift Canada to a 76-75 victory over the Argentinians.
