IRVING, Texas — BYU freshmen Kambree Barber, Delaney Gibb and Naia Tanuvasa were named to the Big 12 All-Rookie Team on Tuesday morning.
Nominated by each institution’s director of student-athlete support services, student-athletes on the Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team must be new, first-time/incoming freshmen who have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial coursework and achieved a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00.
Additionally, the student-athlete must have participated in at least one of their team’s scheduled contests and must have been a member of their respective team for their sport’s entire NCAA Championship segment. The Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team was introduced in the 2012-13 academic year.
Barber appeared in 25 games, starting six during her freshman season while averaging 17.5 minutes and 4.3 points on 46.7 percent shooting. The 2024-25 freshman scored a career-high 15 points and 12 rebounds while going 7-of-9 from the floor against Arizona State on Feb. 1, 2025, en route to her first-career double-double and Big 12 Freshman of the Week honors. Barber recorded a 3.25 GPA during her first two semesters at BYU.
Cannon played in all 30 games, starting four for the Cougars in 2024-25 and averaged 4.5 points, 2.6 rebounds and 0.7 steals. The Shelley, Idaho native scored a career-high 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting, going 1-for-2 from three while contributing three assists in a win over UCF on Feb. 5, 2025. She also recorded a career-high four steals in a win over Idaho in the season opener on Nov. 6, 2024. Cannon is a Family Life major with an emphasis in human development and holds a 3.86 GPA.
Gibb was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Year for 2024-25 after picking up 10 Freshman of the Week honors. The Raymond, Alberta, Canada native finished in the top-15 of 29 statistical categories in the BYU freshman record book, including 19 top-10 marks and 15 top-5 records. Gibb holds a 3.00 GPA as a Psychology major.
Tanuvasa appeared in 10 games and scored seven points, grabbed four rebounds, registered three assists and a steal. Tanuvasa held a 3.12 GPA as an undeclared major. Following the season, Tanuvasa transferred to Utah Valley University.
