PROVO, Utah — No. 16 BYU women’s volleyball welcomes Weber State to the Smith Fieldhouse on Tuesday evening.

Beginning with the Wildcats at home, the Cougars (9-0, 0-0 Big 12) will face a trio of in-state opponents this week. BYU will also visit Utah State and Utah Valley on Thursday and Saturday.

The Cougars moved up three spots in this week's AVCA poll from No. 19 to No. 16 after sweeping the LMU Invitational, including a win over then-No. 16 USC. BYU hit .311 as a team in Los Angeles, while holding the Trojans, LMU and Western Michigan to a combined .153. 

Suli Davis led the way with 47 kills on a .366 clip, averaging 5.22 kills per set. She posted the first double-double of her young career against USC with 15 kills and 10 digs. Claire Little Chambers pitched in 38 kills, averaging 4.75 per set, while Sophia Callahan and Brielle Kemavor both added 14.

Alex Bower dished out 100 assists for the third-straight week to start the season, averaging 11.11 per set. Emma Barbero finished with 34 digs on the week for a 3.78 dig per set average.

Mia Lee and Brielle Kemavor each posted 11 total blocks, with Lee recording six solos. She had four solo stuffs at LMU, tied for the second-most in a rally-scoring era match at BYU. Lee averaged 1.57 blocks per set for the tournament, while Kemavor had a 1.22 block per set average.

Through three weeks of play, BYU ranks No. 12 nationally in team hitting percentage (.302), No. 15 in kills per set, No. 17 in assists per set (13.19) and No. 23 in opponent hitting percentage (.147). The Cougars lead the Big 12 in total aces (61) and aces per set (1.97).

Individually, Alex Bower is ninth in the country in assists per set, averaging 10.87. She also ranks 18th nationally in total assists, with 337. Her assist total leads the Big 12, while her assist per set average is good for third in the Conference.

Wrapping up non-conference play this week, BYU prepares for the 32nd meeting at home against Weber State.

Weber State (5-1, 0-0 Big Sky)

  • The Wildcats went 3-0 last week, sweeping Murray State and Southeast Missouri State before beating Iowa in five sets.
  • WSU is on a five-match win streak, having also beat Charleston Southern and UC Riverside in St. George, Utah two weeks ago.
  • Head coach Jeremiah Larson is in year 11 in Ogden. He is 174-125 (.582) since 2015.
  • BYU leads the all-time series between the two teams, 65-0. The Cougars are 31-0 against the Wildcats in Provo.

BYU will visit Utah State in Logan on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. MDT. The match will be streamed on the Mountain West Network.
