TOKYO – BYU alumna Lexy Halladay-Lowry took 14th place in the Tokyo World Athletics Championships in the 3000-meter steeplechase on Wednesday night at Japan National Stadium.
Halladay-Lowry ran 9:34.03 to finish 14th. The recent graduate was as high as 11th during the race. Fellow Team USA members Angelina Napoleon and Kaylee Mitchell placed ninth and 10th, respectively. Kenya’s Faith Cherotich won in 8:51.59, nearly five seconds ahead of second-place Winifred Yavi of Bahrain.
The Meridian, Idaho native qualified for the final after finishing the preliminaries in 9:15.06. She won the steeplechase at the USATF Outdoor Championships in early August, earning a spot as one of Team USA’s three representatives in the event.

BYU men’s track and field alumni Clayton Young and Kenneth Rooks also competed in Tokyo. Young finished ninth in the marathon final, while Rooks placed 11th in the 3000m steeplechase preliminaries.
