Four BYU hitters recorded nine or more kills in BYU's 3-0 win against Weber State.

PROVO, Utah – Four Cougars recorded nine or more kills as No. 16 BYU women's volleyball swept Weber State (25-15, 27-25, 25-19) at the Smith Fieldhouse on Tuesday night.

The Cougars (10-0, 0-0 Big 12) extended their undefeated start to the season with a fifth-consecutive sweep, while hitting .333 as a team to the Wildcats' .215 clip. BYU outpaced Weber State offensively, finishing with 11 more kills.

Middle blocker Abby Hoybjerg made her first career start, contributing four blocks and one kill. Suli Davis recorded the second double-double of ther young career, posting both 11 kills and digs. Claire Little Chambers contributed 13 kills of her own.

Alex Bower finished with 39 assists, five blocks and five kills, hitting .833. Brielle Kemavor added nine kills on a .615 clip and a pair of blocks, while Sophia Callahan was also efficient, tallying nine kills on a .421 hitting percentage.

Set 1
BYU came out strong in the opening set, jumping to a 9-3 lead and forcing a Weber State timeout after a five-point run that included two Cougar kills. The Wildcats responded with a 3-1 run of their own, fueled by back-to-back blocks and consecutive BYU errors, narrowing the gap to 11-6.

However, the Cougars quickly regained momentum with a 3-1 burst, highlighted by two kills and an ace, that led to another Weber State timeout. Out of the break, Little Chambers delivered back-to-back kills to extend the lead to 20-11. BYU maintained control and closed out the set with a solid finish, capped by a block from Kemavor and Bower.

The Cougars had a slow start in the second, falling behind 2-0 before rattling off three straight points to take a 3-2 lead. Weber State responded with a 3-2 run to edge ahead 6-5, but BYU answered quickly with four straight points, including two more kills from Little Chambers, to go up 10-6.

The Wildcats battled back with a 4-0 run to tie the set at 14, keeping the pressure on. BYU regained control with a 3-1 run to take a 19-16 lead, but a quick 2-0 spurt from Weber State forced the Cougars to call a timeout. Out of the break, Bower delivered a dump kill to give BYU a 23-21 edge. 

Weber State stayed resilient, tying the set at 23-all. Back-to-back service errors by the Wildcats pushed the set into extra points, and Little Chambers sealed the win with a clutch ace, giving the Cougars a 27-25 victory.

BYU came out strong in the third set, opening with a 4-0 run that featured kills from Davis and Kemavor. Weber State quickly responded to even the score at 5-5, but the Cougars answered with a 3-0 run capped by a Callahan kill, giving them an 8-5 lead. Back-to-back kills from Bower and Davis extended BYU’s lead to 11-8 and forced a Weber State timeout.

The Cougars continued to apply pressure, with a pair of kills from Little Chambers and another from Davis stretching the lead to 17-10, prompting another Wildcats timeout. From there, the two teams traded points, but BYU maintained control and closed out the match with a 25-19 win to complete the sweep.
