The Royal vs. Navy meet (formerly Blue vs. White) kicked off with the women’s and men’s 200 medley relay. Both Royal and Navy earned wins in their respective events, with Royal — comprised of Katya Hulse, Lucy Warnick, Ana Loveridge and Taylor Bennet — taking the top spot in the women’s event with a time of 1:44.18.

Navy won the men’s 200 medley relay, with Team A made up of Jack Burke, Peter Etzold, Max Kleinman and Darwin Anderson, finishing with a time of 1:29.70.

In addition to the swimming competition, Royal diving beat Navy with stellar performances from Sophia DeBergh, Betty Martin, Elijah Baker and Martí Llop.

Loveridge, a freshman from Greenwood Village, Colorado, represented Royal superbly as she took first in the 50 freestyle (23.90) and 100 butterfly (55.47), while also competing on the winning 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay (3:27.91) teams.

Accompanying Loveridge, senior Victoria Schreiber also performed well, earning three victories including the 200 freestyle (1:53.76) and 500 freestyle (5:10.94). She was also a member of the winning 400 freestyle relay.

On the men’s side, Kleinman finished first in three events. The sophomore won the 50 freestyle (19.80) and 100 freestyle (44.49), and also competed on the winning 200 medley relay team. He was part of the men’s 400 freestyle relay team, which came up just short in the final event of the meet.

Tanner Nelson showcased his talent in the pool Friday night with three first-place finishes of his own. The South Jordan, Utah, native won the 200 freestyle (1:40.21) and 500 freestyle (4:36.14), and anchored the winning 400 freestyle relay team.

With the score neck and neck, the winner of the meet was determined by the outcome of the final event — the men’s 400 freestyle relay. In a dramatic finish, anchors Nelson and Payton Plumb raced side by side in the final leg, with Nelson hitting the wall at 3:01.40. Plumb finished just behind, giving the Navy A team a time of 3:02.64.
