PROVO, Utah — No. 19 BYU women's volleyball heads out for its first Big 12 road trip of the year, visiting Cincinnati in Ohio for the first time in series history.

Later in the week, the Cougars (13-1, 1-1 Big 12) will also face West Virginia on Friday night to complete their East Coast swing.

BYU dropped five spots from No. 14 to No. 19 in this week's American Coaches Association (AVCA) poll after splitting its Big 12-opening slate last week.

The Cougars dropped a four-set match to Colorado on Thursday night before bouncing back with a sweep of Iowa State on Saturday afternoon. BYU hit .249 on the week with Suli Davis (28 kills), Claire Little Chambers (25 kills), Brielle Kemavor (19 kills) and Sophia Callahan (12 kills) each finishing double figures.

Kemavor led the way with a .424 hitting clip, while Callahan posted a .400 percentage. Kemavor also posted a team-high nine blocks, averaging 1.29 per set. Bower dished out 69 assists and was tied for second-most in digs with Davis' 14. Uluave finished with a team-leading 17, and Emma Barbero had 13.

A week into Big 12 play, the Cougars rank No. 11 in kills per set (14.27) and No. 12 in assists per set (13.27). BYU is second in the Conference in both categories, as well as fourth in aces per set (1.75), hitting percentage (.287), total assists (637), total kills (598), total aces (84) and total blocks (122.5)

Bower paces the Cougars on the individual side with the nation's eighth-best assist per set average (11.02), also recording the country's 12th-highest assist total (529), both of which lead the league. Kemavor's .402 hitting percentage is second in the conference, while Little Chambers' point (226) and kill (199) totals ranks third.

Embarking on its first Conference road trip of the year, BYU has faced Cincinnati four times in the last three seasons, but each matchup has been in Provo.

Cincinnati (9-3, 1-1 Big 12)

  • The Bearcats split their Big 12 slate last week as well, falling at UCF in straight sets before beating West Virginia at home in four.
  • UC beat Wake Forest, Alabama and Xavier in non-conference play, reeling off four-straight at one point.
  • Head coach Danijela Tomic is in her first season with Cincinnati. She is 403-225 (.642) in her 21-year career.
  • BYU leads the all-time series, 3-1. The Cougars took a non-conference meeting in 2022 before sweeping a home series in 2023, but the Bearcats earned a five-set victory last season.

    West Virginia (12-1, 0-1 Big 12)

  • The Mountaineers also went 12-0 in non-conference play before dropping their Big 12 opener at Cincinnati, 3-1.
  • WVU hosts Kansas State on Wednesday night before welcoming BYU to the Hope Coliseum on Friday night.
  • Jen Greeny is in her second season in Morgantown. She is 20-22 (.476) at WVU and 367-221 (.624) in her 19 seasons as a head coach.
  • BYU leads the all-time series, 4-0, and is 2-0 against the Moutaineers in Morgantown. The Cougars have won all 12 sets against WVU in series history.

BYU will head further East to visit West Virginia in Morgantown on Friday, Oct. 3 at 6 p.m. EDT. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
