Meghan Hunter won the 800-meters at the Boston Colyear-Danville Season Opener Dec. 7 in an indoor personal-best time of 2:02.03. The senior from Provo, Utah holds the program's No. 3 all-time mark in the event and is currently ranked No. 1 in the NCAA.

True freshman Tessa Buswell clocked 2:04.01 to place third in the event and rank No. 9 all-time at BYU. Senior Krystie Solomon-Jensen placed fourth in 2:04.95 as the third Cougar half-miler to break the 2:05 barrier.

Riley Chamberlain placed eighth in the 3000m running just a tenth of a second off of her personal best in the event clocking 8:51.31. Teammates Taylor Rohatinsky and Taylor Lovell placed 24th and 29th, running 9:08.98 and 9:12.68 in their debut races over the 3000m distance.

Sophomore Grace Hutchison set a personal best of 4:45.81 to place 15th and lead the Cougar women in the mile.

Friday's Invitational will be a season-opener for Lexy Halladay-Lowry in the 5000m, Jenna Hutchins in the 5000m and Carmen Alder in the mile.

“It’s been a great month of training so we are excited to have our first indoor competition of 2025," said women's distance coach Diljeet Taylor. "We are looking forward to NCAA-caliber times that will help us see what else we need to work on as prepare for championship season.”

Men's Preview

The BYU track and field men's distance group will return to Boston for the second time this season, having previously competed in similar fashion to the women's team at the Boston Colyear-Danville Season Opener.

Sophomore standout Carter Cutting ran 3:59.45 in the crew's first trip out east. His personal best time in the event elevated his rank to No. 9 in program records.

Multiple members of the 2024 NCAA Cross Country Championship team also competed previously on the track in Boston, most notably Creed Thompson who finished the 5000m in 13:25.0. Joey Nokes also finished under the 13:30.00 mark with a 13:29.61 finishing time.

The same track is also the location of BYU's school record time in the 5000m. Casey Clinger set the standard with a 13:17.36 finish at the 2024 Boston Colyear-Danville Season Opener.

"Boston University’s facility has become a must run once or twice a year for the elite programs in the NCAA," said men's assistant distance coach. "The majority of qualifiers for the NCAA championships come from their meets in the distance events. We’ll see the best competition in the country and believe our guys will be right up there with it. Casey Clinger will run his first race of the indoor season and he’s looking better than ever. We have a few others that will also look to hit NCAA qualifying marks."
