DANIEL ISLAND, S.C. — BYU men’s golf (295-290–585) finished off day two in 15th after recording a 2-over-par second round at The Bryson Invitational at Daniel Island Club.

“In many ways our round today was similar to yesterday,” said director of golf Todd Miller. “We hit a lot of irons shots that put us in difficult spots to make par and we missed putts that we normally make. Despite poor play, the guys are continuing to stay positive, have good body language and fight for their team.”

Vanderbilt (278-280–558) made three eagles as a team on its way to an 8-under-par day to stay in first. Kansas (280-279–559) remained in second place after posting a 9-under par, followed by third place Duke (281-280–561) with its 8-under-par score in round two. Wake Forest (280-284–564) shot 4-under par to be in fourth and host South Carolina (287-278–565) scored a 10-under par, the second best score of the round, to get to fifth and round out the top five.

Senior Simon Kwon (74-71–145) is tied for 47th to lead BYU after recording a 1-under par on Tuesday. Kwon led the team in birdies with six.

Kihei Akina (72-74–146) had a 3-over-par round two to put himself at a share for 56th. Peter Kim (79-70–149) bounced back with a 2-under par on his scorecard to climb 11 spots to a tie for 69th.

Tyson Shelley (74-76–150) and Angus Klintworth (75-75–150) both finished the round at a tie for 76th after a 4-over and 3-over day respectively.

“We made a goal to hit it in the middle of more greens tomorrow, especially when we are not in the fairway off the tee,” said Miller.

The final round of the event tees off for the Cougars on Wednesday at 6:10 a.m. MDT. Live scoring can be found on Scoreboard.
